Ooh, sparkly!

Soo, I have a new laptop! And I can game again! (Though my guess is that everyone who reads this blog already knows that by now...)

Spent most of the weekend getting things up and running the way I want it. Now I got most of that done, however, asside from the dual-boot part of the story. I'd like to make it run Linux and Windows side by side, however the distro I chose seems to not like my laptop, and I havn't even gotten the live-dvd to run yet.

Overall though, it's a lot better than my old one, and games run a lot more smoothly on it. As such I am happy with it, even if it doesn't boot Linux :)

Dungeons and Dragons Character?
Posted by SG_01 on 2007-12-29 15:53
Re: Killing time on Christmas Eve on Selinye's blog.

I Am A: Neutral Good Halfling Wizard (4th Level)

Ability Scores:
Strength-11

Dexterity-12
Constitution-12
Intelligence-19
Wisdom-15
Charisma-13

Alignment:
Neutral Good A Neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.

Race:
Halflings are clever, capable and resourceful survivors. They are notoriously curious and show a daring that many larger people can't match. They can be lured by wealth but tend to spend rather than hoard. They prefer practical clothing and would rather wear a comfortable shirt than jewelry. Halflings stand about 3 feet tall and commonly live to see 150.

Class:
Wizards are arcane spellcasters who depend on intensive study to create their magic. To wizards, magic is not a talent but a difficult, rewarding art. When they are prepared for battle, wizards can use their spells to devastating effect. When caught by surprise, they are vulnerable. The wizard's strength is her spells, everything else is secondary. She learns new spells as she experiments and grows in experience, and she can also learn them from other wizards. In addition, over time a wizard learns to manipulate her spells so they go farther, work better, or are improved in some other way. A wizard can call a familiar- a small, magical, animal companion that serves her. With a high Intelligence, wizards are capable of casting very high levels of spells.

Vacation so far
Posted by SG_01 on 2007-08-12 08:53
My adventures at Fan Faire can be found at Lunarwrit.

After fan faire we headed out to a place on the edge of Zion. We staid at the Bumbleberry Inn. It is pretty interesting that we did not have any connection on our cells, yet we did have wireless internet.

At any rate, we went and got our national park passes, and check out the Zion visitor center. After that we had some dinner. I posted some stuff on the internet and checked out various things.

The next day we went to Zion. They have free shuttles running through the park to keep it clear of traffic. We headed to the lodge, where the Emerald Pools trail starts.

The trail to the lower pool is pretty easy, and the pool looked decent. The middle pool was a little bit harder to reach, but it was more beautiful. On the way to the upper pool we first went the wrong way, onto a way that wasn't really a path. We got up on top of the mountain and found some people who told us nothing was there.

After we rested a bit, we headed over to the upper pool through the proper path. This however was a trial of the sun, as it was hot, and the sun was shining right down on us without much chance for any shade.

When we got near to the upper pool the shade showed up. This was mainly because the mountain swallow up the light from the sun. The upper pool area was nice and cool. After the trial of the sun this was more than welcome, so we stayed and rested for a while. Had some fun with some American people before we headed back down.

We decided to go back to the lodge and have some refreshments. They were much needed too, I had two refills before I had enough drink. We decided to walk one more trail before departing the park. This trail led us right down to the narrows of virgin river.

It surprised me how many Dutch people were actually there. I think we were the majority that day.

One day I would like to climb up to Angel's landing. When that will be, I don't know, but some day.

When we left the park, we headed out to the place where we would stay for the night, Pandarossa Ranch. It wasn't hard to find, but there were quite some turns before we got there.

One thing that struck me, was the sheer number of cute girls there. Perhaps I should have tried to come on to one, but I don't really know how to. And knowing the usual reactions to my tries, I figured I would let it slip for now. Besides that, my mom made a pretty bad comment during check in, that kind of made me feel sorry for the girl doing the check in. Of course my mom had no idea about the US innuendo.

Well, we pretty much had dinner, checked the internet through the wireless connection, and went to bed.

When we woke up, we had breakfast, and went on. On what we thought would be a short cut. The road was so bad though, that the short took 1.5 hours. It was a beautiful scenery though, so it was time well spent.

After we got back on the main roads, we found a fuel station somewhere, so we fueled up, and went on to Bryce. Bryce is a very nice park, though it is mostly red rocks.

We took the car and went to all the view points since we did not have a whole lot of time. Some very nice views that I will put in the photo gallery.

At the lodge we purchased some things, as they had some pretty wierd stuff. I got myself some "Chocolate Rocks", which are like M+Ms, but in rock shapes. (And they actually look pretty realistic)

Afterwards we headed to Escalante, where we had a bed and breakfast for the night. I played some pool with my mom before heading out for dinner. We got some mexican food today, which was good. The Hot fudge brownie sundea after that was even better though!

We did find a completely pink house, which instantly reminded us of Winter from the EQ2 boards. We made some pics for later, when we have internet access again.

I am still thinking back to Fan Faire. It was just so much fun actually meeting a lot of people. Still, there are a lot of things I wonder about. Mostly about what people thought of me. From some I received an answer to that. From others not so much. Next is when will I see them again? So much great people and so much fun. I can only hope to be at a future Fan Faire though.

The bed and breakfast in Escallante was very good. We had a very nice mexican breakfast, and took some muffins to go. Both were excellent, by the way.

We had a bit of a way to drive to the Capital Reef. At one of the viewpoints at the beginning of the park was a spectacular sight: the mountains themselves seemed painted green and blue.

The park was pretty good, but I was still a bit tired. We took a hike under the Hot sun, and went to the "tanks". These are located right above a river bed. The river was dry, so it was just another sandy path, and after a bit there was a sign telling us to go up.

The tanks themselves are pools of water in rocks. The best part of getting there though was the shade.

Back at the car, we had some of the muffins, which were definitely appreciated.

After we had finished visiting the park, we went to our next stay: Torrey Trading Post Lodge. Quite cheap, though the cabins were definitely decent.

We had dinner at the local burger place, which went very busy right after we came in. It looked like it was burger day in town, and al the kids went to the place we picked for dinner. Still, the food was decent.

The next day we headed to Arches National Park. It was hot, and I hadn't been able to sleep well. All in all, I slept most of the way there. When we arrived, I was still half dazed, but alright, time for a park. The visitor center was a bit more extended than the one in Capital Reef. We went in to check things out. It was impressive, the arches there are huge and the sun was very hot.

We decided to walk two of the short and easy trails. With some of the more neat and defining arches in them. After this, my mom wanted to call her boyfriend, as we finally had some cell service.

We headed into Moab next, for a drink. We found a cafe, which had a talkative waitress. We talked a bit about The Netherlands and Europe before we left. My mom went into some shops, and after that we headed to our destination: Morris' Last Resort.

Not a bad little place, though the pics will come later. We finally got internet, so I'm posting this now.

There's pictures in the photo gallery, under the Summer '07 tag. There's also some pictures on the Lunarwrit.

Talk to you all later!

More Fan Faire...
Posted by SG_01 on 2007-05-02 22:10
Well, yesterday I got in a shirt I had made for Fan Faire! I'll put in some image at the botton of this post. The image of Andriella became a bit dark, but otherwise it's pretty cool looking.

Aside from that, I promised my dad to start finding work, and today marks my first application out the door! Hope the response will be a positive one.

And some random thoughts
Posted by SG_01 on 2007-03-08 02:20
Just some random stuffs I put together:

There are those who wander,
There are those who stand still,
There are those who pace on steady,

Which are you? Which will you be? Whichever it is, may the stars guide your way.

Looking for you,
In red or in blue.
The way is yet hidden,
But find you I shall.
The moon and stars will guide my path,
Through heaven and through hell.
Even though I may wander,
Even though I may stray.
The path hidden shall be found,
And find you, I yet may.

To wander, to be, to find the path, to loose it again.
I wander in being, wander the path that only I can take.
Where I wander may not be in the physical realm,
But it's out here, I know it is.

Soo, it's full
Posted by SG_01 on 2007-03-08 02:12
Well, I managed to fill up my 300GB drive with anime *grins*. This means I have a 300GB drive, a 120 GB and a bunch of CDs and DVDs filled with anime! Ah well, time for a new disk I guess. Well, that or burn some more off to dvds :D

Good thing there's some real good animes in that collection too. On some recent additions:

  • Zero no Tsukaima
About a failure magician who summons a human as familiar. Very funny, and well done anime here
  • The Third - Aoi Hitomi no Shoujo
About a girl who's a jack of all trade in the future. Very good story, and some good action in here
  • Eureka Seven
Another one set in the future. This one is about a boy who wants to become a pro airsurver. Another one with a good story, and some good action.
  • Black Lagoon
What happens when a Japanese bussinessmen becomes kidnapped and then is proclaimed dead by his boss who sent a killing machine to him? Well he gets pissed. This series is about just that. Very interresting story, quite some action, and some fun. Not for those who can't take some potty mouthing though!

Failed my practical Driving Exame for the second time, which kinda sucks. I did a pretty much an examplary ride, but at once crossing he sent me a into a very confusing direction kinda throwing me off, and then he hit the breaks just a bit before I did. So that's pretty much it. /sigh Well better luck next time I guess.

P.S. My phone died (empty battery) when I tried to sent a message to my mom too... Yesterday just wasn't my day!

New photos and Soon
Today I've added some photos I made when I made a trip into the dunes out behind the house earlier this week. There's some very nice ones in there. Do note that they're all in their original format (huge) so they may take some time to load ;)

Aside from that I'll be heading out to campzone, an outdoor lanparty. There's about 1800 people signed up right now! Anyhow, this looks like fun, at least to try out once. Perhaps I'll write a piece on how it was afterwords too.

Ah well, almost done packing here ^_^

Games and VR
While watching anime this night I found a sentence all too true. Tsubasa Cronicle, Ep 24, there is a dialog between characters and the one sentence I'd like to quote:

"Even though it's time spent in a game, to us it's real, the promisses, the friendships, it's all real"

It's definitly a series worth watching btw :)

Geek
Geek, the word that describes someone such as me. One who is very inteligent, but missing some of the most basic social aspects. Usually not one with a good fasion taste, but will wear something that feels comfortable. Talking to one remains hard for most, as they are mostly focussed in a few subjects, but will know very little about all else. Usually not chatty, because when they tried in the past, it backfired on them. When engaged in chit-chat they will most likely try to turn the converstation to something they know about so they don't fall dry. They are also very prone to correcting others, and do so without even thinking about it, or noticing. Among geeks talking is very easily, but when talking to more socialy apt people this can cause problems. Besides this, geeks are usually very honest. Most times they do not see the use for lieing to others, especialy cause it brings a sence of inferioutiy with it.

At times people think geeks don't have feelings, but this is not at all true. Geeks have just as much feelings as normal people, it is just that they usually have problems expressing these. As such they tend to hide their own feelings unless they become so strong that it is no longer possible. They are also more prone to depressions cause of this.

Maybe I'll add more later, but for now, time to go to sleep *yawn*

Back in bussiness
Looks like everything's up and running again :) Though through the next weeks the servers might go down at times for small maintenance thingies (we might need to move the servers around, and maybe mount the outlets or something)

At any rate, I put up some pics of my new room in the photo gallery! So check em out.

Wednesday I'll be moving in, and I'm pretty excited about it. Tired too, putting that desk together was quite the excersize.

Ah well, ttyl :)

Soo...
I figured I'd write something... It's definitly been a while since I last wrote something though.

Soo, what's there to write... Well a lot I guess, but I don't really feel like writing it all anyhow. Overall though, had some fun on the EQ2 Forums/NDG, the people that post there often, really post there often :P Ah well, they're an odd bunch, but can be fun. They also post some really cool stuff on there!

For the rest, school is going pretty well, and I'm going okay.

Hrmm, it's almost like writing a report on what happened... But then again, what should I write here? I guess thoughts and kinda those reports... Ah well, if you have thoughts, please do comment ;)

*hugs*

The meaning behind a tail
II believe that a guy with long hair represents strength. It's probably dependant on how a guy wears it as to what it means. As such, a tail would mean: Strength, tempered by control, and in some cases, inteligence. Ofcource not everyone wears one as such, but in my case, this is probably the case. As such, long wild hair would represent reckless strength.

Ah well, perhaps I should someday look into what has been written about the subject... It should be interresting :)

Soo...
I think I've come to know myself a bit better today, in terms of my autism... Mainly just today, because of a situation which happened and that I gave myself some time to think about it.

Overall, with me the primary problem was never that I can't feel, or get what other people are telling, but more the way I express myself. Overall, the internet has been a great help allowing me to express myself more freely. With no other expression than just text, things usually turn out alright.

Anyhow, the example of today was that I said something to my dad's GF that was a bit of a loaded subject for her. I didn't mean to say it in a way that it would become one, but I did. Which is exactly what the main problem is for me at this moment. I did feel a preasure coming on the situation, and decided I needed a minute to think about things. I took it, and went back and talked with her, making things alright.

I think that moment to myself was crucial for handling the situation afterwords, because I know that when I don't think about what I say, bad things can happen. Just a while to clear my mind works wonders then.

Anyhow, maybe this post will someday help someone else, but for now, I think it's good to at least put this up as reminder for myself

Shirt?
I personally thought it would be cool to have a shirt that said:

For Each Female In Programmers.local
  Message.Send(Female, "*hugs*")
Next Female

On the front and something like:

Soo, where are those female programmers at?

On the back... Hrmm, perhaps I'm just geeky ;)

Hrmm, English...
Well, at Uni I follow two English classes by the same teacher, namely part 1 and part 3 of the matterial (this because of what I did last year - the combination classes). Anyhow, the teacher is pretty good, and pretty funny too. He doesn't nececeraly restrict himself to the Technical English he's giving.

As some examples he told us multiple meanings of AC/DC (What if you're AC/DC? :P) and he told us the difference between a working girl and a working-girl.

His approach is pretty simple: Since the mind works by connecting information to a time/place, he tries to give out extra information that is more likely to stick (since it's funny), and so generating the link, or generating a link to something we already know about. (Dutch: Ezelsbruggetjes - Donkey Bridges? :P).

He also tells us funny stories about his past, sometimes it goes with the things he's teaching, sometimes it doesn't.

Anyhow, I kind of like him, and at least his classes are fun!
